Farmington Country Club is one of the oldest private clubs in Virginia and one of the most historically significant and exclusive locations in the Charlottesville region. In the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Farmington lies nestled in a setting of great natural beauty and tranquility.

How does a graphic design studio go about promoting an organization that doesn’t need to promote itself? Farmington’s membership is by invitation only so they do not have to advertise themselves. A membership booklet would serve to illustrate the benefits and advantages of joining the club to those people who are already under consideration by the board.

Gotham Graphix decided that elegant and understated was the way to approach this project. An oval window was die cut into the cover, revealing a beautiful photograph of the club’s facade taken at sunset on the inside page. This window serves to lead the viewer into the booklet. A light buff color was used for the cover and text pages. Gotham Graphix chose to create this color with ink rather than utilizing a buff paper stock. As a result, the photographs would then be able to contain crisp white highlights as well as deep saturated color. An unusual decorative typeface reminiscent of colonial-era handwriting was chosen for the main taglines. In each spread, a buff colored page with text and inset photos appears on the left page opposite a full page photograph on the right page. Topics that are covered in the booklet include: The Clubhouse, Golf, Tennis, Fitness, Swimming, Dining, and Social Activities.
